Action Therapy

Action Therapy, what is it and what is it all about?

For those of you that do not know, I am a female, Indigenous based Action therapist in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I work as one of Mitch Bourbonniere’s therapists under his Master’s degree. I am in the process of earning my own Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies as of September 2020, and will be enrolled in Focusing Oriented Therapy and Trauma-Informed practice in January 2021.

I like to think of our therapists/counselors as racially informed therapists. Female therapists such as myself are assigned to female Indigenous youth in foster care, and Indigenous youth not in child care through Jordan’s Principle.

We do culturally based programs by involving our youth in community events, volunteering, lateral empathy in the community, ceremonies, cultural activities and events. We work along side community leaders such as Indigenous politicians, Elders, activists, justice members, medicine people, lodge keepers and more!

Our youth are given endless opportunities and experiences to build their connections with other youth and members amongst the Action Therapy community. Involvement adds to resumes, work experience, volunteer experience, social and communication skills. Therapists provide healthy networking, activities and cultural connections with the Indigenous community to learn of endless resources for every day life. If you know of any female Indigenous youth that can benefit from being assigned a mentor, friend, and culturally minded therapist in Winnipeg, Manitoba, please contact Caitlin Richard to pass on your information to have a referral done by Mitch. Mitch’s contact information is on his website, Gichii-miigwech!
